Performance marketing is advertising you pay for and judge on a result you can count: a lead, a sale, a booking, an install. In India the clicks are cheap. Superads puts the median Meta cost per click here at about ₹10 over the year to September 2026, and Lebesgue's benchmark puts a thousand Facebook impressions at about ₹130, against about ₹1,500 in the United States, each figure converted to rupees at the exchange rate on 16 October 2026.

So brands buy a great many of them, and the money is lost after the click: on the page that does not load, the form nobody finishes, the lead nobody calls back. Much of this service is about that part.

What we run, and what each platform is for

Each platform does a different job, so we choose them by what the business needs next.

The platforms we run campaigns on
PlatformWhat it is good atWhat we judge it on
Google SearchReaching people who are already searching for what you sell, at the moment they searchCost per lead or sale, and the actual search terms that brought them
YouTubeShowing the product to people who have never heard of it, with sound and time to explainHow much of the video people watch, visits, and growth in searches for your brand
Performance MaxOne goal-based Google campaign that runs across Search, YouTube, Display, Discover, Gmail and MapsConversions and their value, and which images and lines are doing the work
Meta (Instagram and Facebook)Creating demand among people who were not looking, retargeting, lead forms, and selling online through Advantage+ sales campaignsCost per result, how often the same people see the ad, and when the creative wears out
LinkedInBusiness buyers, chosen by job title, company and industryCost per qualified lead, judged by your sales team

Google describes Performance Max as one campaign that reaches across all of its channels, and Meta's automated retail campaigns are now called Advantage+ sales campaigns (they used to be Advantage+ shopping). Both hand the targeting to the platform's own machine learning. That leaves two levers the advertiser still controls: the creative, and the quality of the conversion data the machine learns from.

Tracking comes first

Before the first rupee is spent, we build a tracked route from the click to the sale or enquiry, and check that it records what actually happened.

  • Conversions in Google Ads and Google Analytics that fire on the thing that matters: a submitted form, a paid order, a booked appointment.
  • The Meta pixel, and Meta's Conversions API, which sends events from an advertiser's server, website platform, mobile app or CRM straight to Meta, so a browser that blocks the pixel does not hide the sale.
  • Lead quality fed back from your CRM or your sales sheet, so the campaigns learn the difference between an enquiry and a customer.
  • Tagged links, and a phone number or WhatsApp number used only in the ads, for the businesses that close sales on calls.

Lead forms collect personal data, so they need clear consent. India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, with the consent and notice duties applying from about May 2027. We build forms that will meet them, because rebuilding every form later costs more than building it right now.

Creative made by the people who make the feed

The ads are designed, written and edited by our own team, the same people who make the brand's social content. The posts that earn the most saves and shares with no money behind them have already proved they hold attention, and they often make the best ads a brand will run.

We test ideas. One ad leads with the price, another with the problem, another with a customer, another with the founder. The numbers then tell us what people respond to, and that changes next month's content as well as next month's ads. Formats follow the platform: vertical video for Reels and Shorts, square and portrait images for feeds, short lines for search. Ad copy in healthcare gets extra care, because of the rules below.

The page the ad lands on

A landing page that converts loads quickly on a phone, makes one offer, repeats the promise the ad made, and puts the form or the button where a thumb can reach it. Google's own measure of a page that loads well is a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less for most visits. Where the existing website cannot do that, we build a page for the campaign, which is part of why performance marketing and website development sit side by side on our services page.

Our rule is that a brand should have either ninety days of consistent content or a landing page built for the campaign, and ideally both, before ads go past a test budget. People who click an ad from a brand they do not know go and check the profile and the website, and if those are thin, the click was a cheap way to lose a customer.

Budgets, learning and patience

Search campaigns can produce leads within days when people are already searching. Meta campaigns usually need a few weeks of learning before costs settle, and changing everything in week two restarts the clock. So the first month runs on a test budget large enough to produce a readable result, and the budget grows only once the cost per lead or sale is known and the business can afford it.

Taxes belong in the budget from the start. Google India bills Indian advertisers 18% GST on ad spend, and businesses that deduct TDS on those payments do so at 2%, so a ₹1 lakh monthly Google budget is ₹1,18,000 on the invoice. Meta bills Indian advertisers through its local Indian entity, with GST on the invoice too.

Healthcare and other restricted categories

Healthcare, where we have done some of our best-known work, is also one of the categories the ad platforms restrict most, and the rules decide what a campaign can even attempt.

Healthcare campaigns still work when they are planned around the rules from the first day: search ads aimed at clear intent, education that earns attention without targeting anyone's condition, and measurement that works inside the restrictions. Our guides on healthcare social media rules and IVF clinic marketing under the ART Act cover what the ads are allowed to say.

What we report

Every month you see what was spent, what it produced and what it cost per lead or sale, by campaign and by landing page, with return on ad spend wherever revenue is tracked. Then what we are changing and why. The platform dashboards report their own success generously, so the numbers we trust most are the ones from your side: orders, booked appointments and leads your team marked as real.

For performance work, the fee structure we like best is a base fee plus a bonus tied to leads or sales. It puts our money where yours is, and it only works when both sides agree in writing what counts as a lead.

Who owns the accounts

You do, whoever you hire. The Google Ads account, the Meta ad account and business portfolio, the pixel, the Analytics property and the LinkedIn campaign account should all be in your company's name, with the agency added as a manager or partner. If you ever change agencies, your history, your audiences and your conversion data stay with you. If an agency offers to run ads from its own account to save you the set-up, say no.

Social first, or ads first?

It depends on what you sell. If people already search for it, buy it on impulse and you can measure the sale, ads can lead. If the purchase is considered, depends on trust or comes from a brand nobody has heard of, the social presence has to come first. We wrote the full answer, with four questions and four example businesses, in Performance marketing or social media marketing: which first? Most of our clients end up with both, which is why we usually bundle performance marketing with social media marketing.

If you want to know what your category would cost to advertise, send us the brief with what you sell and to whom.

Frequently asked questions

What is performance marketing?

Performance marketing is paid advertising that is bought and judged on a measurable result, such as a lead, a sale, a booking or an app install. In India it mostly means Google Search and YouTube, Meta (Instagram and Facebook) and LinkedIn ads, with tracking that connects each result back to the ad that produced it.

How much should a business spend on Google or Meta ads in India?

Start with a test budget sized to give a readable result in about four weeks, and scale only once the cost per lead or sale is known. Work backwards from what one customer is worth and how many you need. Meta clicks in India have a median cost of about ₹10, so a first test can be modest, and Google spend carries 18% GST on top.

How long does performance marketing take to work?

Google Search campaigns can produce leads within days when people already search for what you sell. Meta campaigns usually need a few weeks of learning before costs settle. Both depend on the landing page and the follow-up: a page that cannot convert the traffic will make any campaign look like a failure.

Should I start with Google Ads or Meta ads?

Start with Google Search if people already search for what you sell, because you reach them at the moment they want it. Start with Meta if you need to create demand among people who are not looking yet, or if the product sells on how it looks. Most businesses end up running both, with Meta audiences warmed by content and Google catching the searches that follow.

How does Social Saga charge for performance marketing?

We quote a fee against the brief, and the ad budget is paid separately from your own accounts to Google, Meta or LinkedIn. For performance work we like a base fee plus a bonus tied to leads or sales, agreed in writing, because it ties our fee to your results.

Can you run ads for hospitals and IVF clinics?

Yes, within the rules. Google bars remarketing, customer lists and lookalike audiences for infertility treatments, Meta bars ads that imply the viewer's health condition, and Indian medical advertising law limits what can be said. We plan healthcare campaigns around those restrictions from the start, and our fertility-science series for Motherhood Fertility & IVF ran as performance creative.

Do you make the ad creative?

Yes. Our own designers, writers and video editors make the ads, usually alongside the brand's social content, so the posts that already perform can become ads and what the ads learn can shape the next month's content.

Is GST charged on Google and Meta ads in India?

Yes. Google India bills Indian advertisers 18% GST on ad spend, and Meta bills through its Indian entity with GST on the invoice. Businesses that deduct TDS on Google ad payments do so at 2%. Budget for the tax on top of the spend, and separately from the agency's fee, which also carries 18% GST.
